Minister orders senior coast guard officer suspended over drug charges

A senior-ranking coast guard officer from Pylos, in the Peloponnese, was suspended from duty on Wednesday, on the orders of Merchant Marine Minister Miltiades Varvitsiotis, after being caught dealing drugs by members of Kalamata’s narcotics squad, sources said.

A raid on his home turned up no drugs or guns, but it did reveal a large amount of ammunition and gunpowder.
