Criteria set for beneficiaries of handouts from primary surplus

The government has finalized the criteria for beneficiaries of planned handouts from a projected primary surplus, Kathimerini has learned.

According to sources, the handouts are destined for the unemployed and for those on low incomes, including pensioners. The payout will be 500 euros for unmarried citizens and will rise to around 1,000 euros for those with large families.

According to sources, would-be beneficiaries who are unmarried must have declared a taxable income of no more 6,000 euros in 2012. For those who are married, the limit is 8,000 euros. The ceiling is increased by 1,000 euros for every child.

Would-be beneficiaries who are unemployed will not be obliged to provide details of their income in 2012.

Applications for the handouts can be made on the website of the General Secretariat for Information Systems, www.gsis.gr. Those submitted by April 30, will have received their handouts in the first 10 days of May, according to sources.

The criteria are expected to be set out in a ministerial decision to be issed late Tuesday or early Wednesday.
