A 29-year-old man who has been on the run after escaping from a prison in Tiryntha in the northern Peloponnese in 2012, was arrested in the western port city of Patra after allegedly trying to burgle the home of an elderly man, the state-run Athens-Macedonia News Agency (AMNA) reported on Sunday.

The fugitive, who was serving a 22-year sentence for a murder he committed in Patra in 2002, was arrested along with a 14-year-old boy after allegedly breaking into the home of an elderly resident of Patra. The victim was alerted to their presence in his home when he called out for help, forcing them to flee, according to AMNA.

They were apprehended shortly after. The 29-year-old was identified as the fugitive during an identity check at the precinct where he was being held with his young accomplice.
