Weapon fired at PASOK HQ not used in previous crime

The Greek police’s counterterrorism squad was investigating an apparent attack on the headquarters of PASOK, the junior coalition partner, on Sunday after two bullets were found to have pierced its windows.

Police said two windows on the second and third floor of the building were hit by bullets from a firearm which, forensic tests on the casings later revealed, has not been used in a previous terrorist attack.

Shells collected from the premises are believed to have been fired from a 7.62-millimeter caliber weapon, according to some media which said it was most likely a Kalashnikov automatic rifle.

The attack was condemned by most political parties, with government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou calling on “all democratic forces” to “safeguard the state from the threat of terrorism.”

PASOK said in a statement that it “will not be terrorized” and called on all “democratic forces to unite” against terrorism.
