Police deny report they let fugitive terrorist slip away
The Greek Police on Thursday issued a statement denying a media report that a patrol allowed fugitive November 17 terrorist Christodoulos Xeros to slip away from its grasp.
According to a report in Ethnos daily, a police patrol last week in the southern Athenian suburb of Paleo Faliro came face-to-face with the convicted terrorist, who absconded in early January while on a prison furlough and has been at large since. Police officers, Ethnos said, did not instantly recognize the felon as he has changed his appearance by gaining weight and growing a beard. By the time they realized his identity he had driven off and disappeared into the streets of the coastal suburb, Ethnos said.
The report has “absolutely no bearing to reality,” the police said in a statement on Thursday.
