Cretan couple hauled up for nonpayment of 10 mln in taxes

A 64-year-old man and his 57-year-old wife have been arrested in Iraklio, Crete, on suspicion of defrauding the state out of some 10 million euros.

The couple, who owned hotels on the island, are accused of not paying their value-added tax and issuing bogus invoices.

The two suspects had formed three companies in a bid to hide their debts from tax authorities.
