Prosecutor proposes new trial for ex-Thessaloniki mayor
An appeals court prosecutor on Tuesday proposed that Vassilis Papageorgopoulos (photo), the former mayor of Thessaloniki who had a life sentence for embezzlement shortened to a 12-year term last week, face trial again on charges of money laundering.
According to the prosecutor, Evangelos Bakelas, the former mayor should be tried for covering the trail of hundreds of thousands of euros that the former treasurer of the municipality, Panayiotis Saxonis, was found guilty of embezzling.
