Police report points to less crime in 2014

Crimes rates dropped in the first semester of 2014 compared to the previous year, according to a police report released on Thursday. The report showed that there were 52 cases of manslaughter recorded in the first six months this year (six of which were motivated by robbery), compared to 70 recorded in the second semester of 2013, where 21 had been during robberies.

According to police figures, 60,350 people were arrested over various charges in the first semester of 2014, out of whom 5,794 were detained for robberies and break-ins, 6,874 over drug related charges, 882 on embezzlement charges and 72 over manslaughter charges,

Police also announced that law enforcement agents had detained 24,344 immigrants who were not in possession of legal resident documents.

The report also pointed to 717 people being detained over debts to state reaching a total of 480,280,000 euros.
