German tourist found dead in Crete; suicide suspected

A 51-year-old German national who was reported missing on Monday night from her holiday home in Siteia on the eastern coast of Crete, was found dead on Tuesday.

According to the state-run Athens-Macedonia News Agency, relatives alerted police after the unnamed 51-year-old left a note suggesting disappointment with life before walking out of the holiday home.

A search was launched on Monday night. Her body was found on Tuesday lying in a ravine in Kato Zakros, also known as Dead Man’s Gorge.

An autopsy will be conducted to ascertain whether she took her own life or met with an accident.
