Bad weather causes flooding, traffic congestion in northern Athens
Heavy rain caused flooding and traffic congestion in several parts of northern Athens on Monday, while the fire department received dozens of calls to pump water out of basements and move fallen trees.
Also on Monday, authorities in the northern port city of Thessaloniki’s Oraiokastro suburb announced that the municipality had begun registering and cleaning local streams following the death of a 49-year-old resident who drowned after his vehicle was swept away in a flash flood during heavy rainfall on Sunday.
Stormy weather is expected to continue across many parts of the country through Wednesday.
