Kouvelis re-elected as DIMAR leader despite MPs’ opposition

Fotis Kouvelis has been reelected as leader of Democratic Left (DIMAR) despite the party’s MPs asking him to step down.

Kouvelis won 68.34 percent of 745 delegates’ votes at the party’s conference on Sunday. Dimitris Loukas gained 21.01 percent and 10.71 percent of delegates cast blank ballots.

On Friday, the party’s MPs had asked Kouvelis not to run for reelection. After winning Friday’s vote, Kouvelis shrugged off concerns about the lack of unity in his party.

“DIMAR is a responsible power that can bring change,” said the leader. “We are progressing united and with clear political positions.”
