Health authorities preparing to deal with possible Ebola infections, official says
The Health Ministry’s general secretary Christina Papanikolaou said on Friday that Greek authorities were braced to deal with a potential Ebola infection in Greece in the wake of several cases being reported in Spain, the Former Yuguslav Republic of Macedonia and the Czech Republic.
“There is no reason to be particularly worried about Ebola in Greece if we are well prepared,” Papanikolaou told Skai ahead of a planned meeting at noon on Friday between Health Ministry officials and representatives of the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (KEELPNO). Officials are to assess the country’s state of readiness to deal with the virus as well as the measures that could be introduced at Greece’s borders. Daily checks are being conducted at border points for Ebola and reports sent to KEELPNO.
The capital’s Amalia Fleming hospital is on standby to take in any suspicious cases, the general secretary said.
