Patra police ID prisoners at center of knife attack

Two inmates, a Palestinian and an Algerian, both aged 37, were identified on Wednesday by police in the western port city of Patra as the perpetrators of an attack which injured five fellow prisoners at a penitentiary in Aghios Stefanos earlier this week.

According to police, the two suspects attacked a group of of five Nigerians and one Somali man with homemade knives in the prison’s exercise yard on Monday.

Two of the Nigerian men, aged 45 and 46, were hospitalized with knife wounds, while the other four inmates sustained lighter injuries.

No details were released regarding the reason for the attack.
