Friday deadline for flood damage compensation applications
In the wake of serious floods prompted by heavy rainfall in Attica last Friday, fire service officials had by Thursday recorded damage to 1,085 properties and 422 vehicles.
A total of 395 people had filed for the emergency compensation set at 586 euros.
The deadline for submitting applications for compensation is Friday.
Interior Minister Argyris Dinopoulos said on Thursday that up to 2 billion euros would be necessary to effectively bolster inadequate anti-flood works across Attica.
Responding to a question submitted by PASOK lawmaker Apostolos Kaklamanis, Dinopoulos said around 450 million euros has been spent on anti-flood works in Attica since 2003 but that between 1.5 and 2 billion euros in additional funding would be necessary to complete the job.
