Coast guard officers yesterday picked up another 25 illegal immigrants on the uninhabited islet of Yioura off the island of Alonissos, bringing the new total number of immigrants found there over the past two days to 193. The Merchant Marine Ministry said the immigrants – mostly Iraqi Kurds – reached Yioura aboard a wooden fishing boat which was en route from Izmir to Greece or Italy when it foundered off the islet’s coast on Thursday. According to the Athens News Agency, the 22-year-old, who is studying in Boston, managed to conceal her advanced pregnancy from her parents when she returned to Greece for Christmas on December 21.
