Gangs and vandals

According to a survey by Panteion University, 7 percent of senior high school students already belong to criminal gangs vandalizing school property or shops, robbing or blackmailing other children, and trading in drugs. About 17 percent belong to some kind of organized group, not necessarily of a criminal kind. «It is still too early,» said Kourakis, «to talk about the kind of youth gangs that exist in other countries and who systematically commit violent crimes. «In Greece these groups are usually in flux and their activities mostly restricted to sporting events, or else directed against a member of another group. However, there have recently been cases of robbery, mostly by addicts, whether Greeks or foreigners.»
