Search for Athens crematorium site is on, says mayor
Authorities are looking for a site in Athens on which to build a crematorium, the city’s Mayor Giorgos Kaminis (photo) said on Tuesday.
“The issue is progressing and we are in the process of looking for a site,” he said after meeting Interior Minister Nikos Voutsis.
Kaminis has pledged that a crematorium will be built in Athens by 2016.
The Church of Greece has for many years opposed the cremation of Christians.
