Most Greeks support government, poll shows

The majority of Greeks support the government, an opinion poll showed Saturday, also finding that most people are satisfied with the outcome of negotiations with the country’s foreign lenders.

The Marc poll, which was commissioned by Efimerida ton Syndakton newspaper, showed that 64 percent of Greeks back the SYRIZA-led administration, while 31.4 percent have a negative or rather negative view. Asked whether they were pleased with the progress of negotiations with Greece’s European partners, 59.6 percent said “yes” or “probably yes,” while 37.6 percent said “no” or “probably no.”

In addition, the vast majority of respondents, 75.4 percent, deem that the four-month extension deal granted to Greece in the February 20 Eurogroup meeting did not signal the end of Greece’s bailout agreements (MoUs). Just over 14 percent held the opposite view.

Finally, the election of former conservative minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos as president was welcomed by 54.7 percent of Greeks, while 36.3 percent said they were not happy with the decision.
