Six Olympic Village execs charged over illegal hirings

Six people who work at the company which managed the former Olympic Village in northern Athens are to stand trial for alleged illegal hirings they made in 2009, it emerged on Tuesday.

According to a report compiled by the State Audit Council, 10 employees who were not needed were hired ahead of the 2009 general elections and 35 people on fixed-term contracts had their deals made permanent.

When the public company was shut down, the employees were transferred to other positions in the civil service.

The six suspects are accused of causing taxpayers losses of more than 120,000 euros.
