Skouries lumberjacks protest over Hellas Gold shutdown
Dozens of lumberjacks employed at the Hellas Gold mine in Skouries forest, Halkidiki, protested on Wednesday outside the Production Reconstruction Ministry as they have been left without work since the government decided to revoke and review a permit for a processing plan at the site.
Production Reconstruction Minister Panayiotis Lafazanis said the woodmen have a right to protest but that the government has a duty to check that environmental and building regulations are being followed at the mine.
