Golden Dawn chief and MP released from pre-trial custody

The chief and a leading MP of the far-right Golden Dawn party, accused of constituting a criminal organization, were released from custody on Friday after the expiry of the 18-month period allowed by law to hold suspects awaiting trial.

Party chief Nikos Michaloliakos will be kept under house arrest until he and dozens of other Golden Dawn MPs and members go to trial in April.

MP and party secretary Yiannis Lagos had to post bail of 125,00 euros and was banned from leaving the country and attending public gatherings.
