Attica regional authority donates 80 mln euros to Greek state
Attica’s Regional Authority has transferred 80 million euros to the Bank of Greece for use by the Greek state to cover its obligations, according to reports on Friday.
According to sources, the authority’s council voted in favor of transferring the money to the Greek state from its reserves of 350 million euros.
Reports about the move prompted vehement criticism from opposition parties and criticism of Attica Governor Rena Dourou who had clashed fiercely with her predecessor Yiannis Sgouros over the authority’s finances and other issues.
The decision by the Attica Regional Authority came just a day after the board of the Manpower Organization (OAED) decided it would transfer 120 million euros to the state’s coffers at the country’s central bank.
The government has indicated that it could tape the reserves of state bodies and funds to fulfill its obligations if necessary.
