Scheme to get police more in touch with grass roots to be launched

A pilot scheme is due to begin on Monday whereby the heads of police precincts will hold face-to-face meetings with citizens and civil society representatives to discuss policing matters twice a month.

The scheme, known as Citizens’ Hour, is initially due to be launched at 14 precincts, including in Athens, Thessaloniki and Patra as well as on the islands of Evia, Crete and Rhodes.

The meetings are designed to give police chiefs a better idea of the community’s concerns and views on policing standards.

The first phase of the pilot scheme will last for two months, before initial results are assessed.
