Legislative decree on cash reserves goes to vote today

MPs are due to vote on Friday on the government’s controversial decree forcing public organizations to allow the state to use their cash reserves following another day of stormy debates in Parliament.

New Democracy is expected to add to the tension of Friday’s debate and vote by suggesting at the beginning of the procedure that the decree is unconstitutional. The conservatives will also ask for a roll call vote.

The decree was debated at committee level, where SYRIZA and New Democracy MPs argued over the draft legislation’s validity. “Who will go to jail if the reserves are lost?” conservative deputy Adonis Georgiadis cried out during the fractious discussion.
