Firefighters find drug cache in Athens apartment after arson attack
Police were questioning a 43-year-old Kosovo man on Monday after firefighters putting out a blaze in his apartment in the downtown Athens suburb of Kolonos on Sunday discovered a large cache of illegal narcotics.
The fire in the fourth-floor apartment, which is believed to have been the result of an arson attack, was quickly extinguished before it was able to spread to adjacent properties, leaving most of the contents unscathed.
These included more than a kilogram of cocaine, 700 narcotic pills and a handgun, leading investigators to believe that the flat was being used by traffickers.
