Mother of eight held for husband’s murder

A mother of eight from northern Greece was arrested yesterday on suspicion of murdering her husband and then dumping the body in a landfill with the assistance of her two eldest sons. According to a police statement, Sanie Osmanoglu, 37, has confessed to fatally shooting Ramzi Celigir, 46, in the head with a shotgun in the family’s home in the village of Neo Keramidi, near Katerini in central Macedonia. Police said the suspect claimed Celigir physically abused her. Celigir’s body was found near the village of Korino, some seven kilometers northeast of Katerini, by a shepherd whose flock was grazing in the area. Police said the family’s eldest sons, aged 17 and 18, wrapped their father’s corpse in a blanket and abandoned it in the rubbish tip. The family had recently migrated from their home in Thrace, seeking work in the Katerini tobacco plantations.
