Behind a sign proclaiming ‘Acropolis – peace – civilization,’ policemen stand on guard to ensure tourists gain unhindered access to the ancient citadel of Athens yesterday as dozens of striking contract workers employed by the Culture Ministry staged a two-hour protest outside Greece’s most popular archaeological site. Tomorrow, protesters will hold a rally outside the ministry’s headquarters.
