Workers stand amid construction work scaffolding at the intersection of Pireos and Kifissos avenues. The Athens-bound lane of the new Pireos Bridge opened yesterday and the Piraeus-bound lane is to open by the end of this week, Environment and Public Works Minister Vasso Papandreou said. She added that the Kifissos River’s water-carrying capacity has tripled since last year and will eventually be 4.5 times its original capacity.
