Activists to close their eyes in gay kiss protest

Gay rights activists called yesterday for homosexuals to gather in Athens and kiss in public this evening to protest at a 100,000-euro fine imposed on a private television station for showing a male couple kissing. «We hope there will be as many of us as possible. After all, our kisses are officially worth 100,000 euros now,» Grigoris Valianatos, an activist organizing the event told AFP yesterday. The protest is scheduled for late today on the doorstep of the National Audiovisual Council, Greece’s media watchdog. On Wednesday, the council leveled a 100,000-euro fine on Mega television station for showing two young men kissing on the popular late-night series «Close Your Eyes.» According to media observers, it was the first time men were broadcast kissing in a popular Greek show.
