Riot police, out hunting, beat 2 men

An official investigation was ordered yesterday into an alleged assault that took place Sunday by two off-duty riot policemen on a hunting trip on a couple of Albanian farmhands who objected to all the shooting going on near them. Public Order Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis issued a statement denouncing the incident. The ministry neither comprehends nor will it put up with behavior by officers that is illegal and contravenes every principle of the force, he said. Officers Georgios Berdos and Dimitrios Goutselis, both members of the MAT riot squad, were hunting on Sunday in the area of Aghios Constantinos, south of Lamia in central Greece, with a group of local people. When some of the pellets came close to two Albanians gathering olives, they complained to the hunters. Berdos and Goutselis, who were charged yesterday with causing grievous bodily harm, allegedly attacked the two and punched them up.
