Mayor accuses justice minister of acting like ‘Pontius Pilate’ over Golden Dawn trial

Korydallos Mayor Stavros Kasimatis on Friday accused Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos of acting like Pontius Pilate by not taking the decision to move the Golden Dawn trial from Korydallos Prison.

Locals have urged authorities to hold the trial elsewhere because of the disruption that it is causing in the area.

Paraskevopoulos said on Thursday that presiding judge Maria Lepenioti is the only one that can decide to transfer the trial.

However, during Thursday’s session, which was adjourned, Lepenioti said that the decision has to come from the Justice Ministry. “Instead of using the court’s clear statement immediately, the minister is still following the same tactic,” said Kasimatis. “He is contributing to the trial’s delay.”
