Deal rests upon political will of Greece’s lenders, Varoufakis says
Reaching a deal on Greece rests upon the political will of the nation’s foreign lenders, Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis said ahead of a crucial Eurogroup meeting in Brussels, adding however that the leftist-led government will not consent to an unsustainable agreement.
“The government will not sign an agreement that does not offer a prospect to come out of the crisis, [an agreement] that does not address the key issues of debt, unemployment and recession,” Varoufakis told private Sto Kokkino radio on Monday.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued on Monday, Varoufakis hailed the rehiring of laid-off finance ministry cleaning staff. Through their struggle, he said, the cleaners became a “symbol of resistance against the memorandums.”
