Pair arrested for alleged ID scam

A 53-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman were arrested in Athens late on Monday on suspicion of illegally possessing the personal details of thousands of people, which they attempted to sell to businesses.

The arrests were made after an e-mail was sent to numerous companies offering them the 150,000 people’s e-mail addresses for an unknown fee.

Police traced both the electronic message and the bank account mentioned in the e-mail, leading them to the two suspects.

Investigators said they found 406,000 electronic records, including names, phone numbers and e-mail addresses, on computer equipment seized at the house they raided.
