ND’s Bakoyannis fears capital controls over long weekend

New Democracy MP Dora Bakoyannis fears that if Greece does not reach an agreement with lenders this week it will be forced to implement capital controls over the weekend.

Speaking on Skai TV on Monday, the ex-foreign minister called on Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to seal and agreement with the institutions and bring it to Parliament for approval as soon as possible.

“If we do not have an agreement by Friday, I fear that over the 3-day weekend, there will be capital controls, as happened in Cyprus,” said Bakoyannis.

Monday is a bank holiday in Greece due to Pentecost. Bakoyannis suggested that all opposition parties should back the agreement and that Tsipras should call snap elections after the deal is passed through the House.
