Policeman accused of murdering daughter remanded

A 47-year-old policeman accused of strangling his 7-year-old daughter in Thessaloniki earlier this week was remanded in custody after facing a local magistrate on Thursday.

According to sources, the policeman claimed to be suffering from psychological problems and asked to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

The policeman, who is a member of Thessaloniki’s riot squad and had recently returned to the service after nine months of paternity leave, killed his daughter at their home in the city’s Evosmos neighborhood on Tuesday.
