Junior coalition partner says ‘Greek people are not afraid’

Panos Kammenos, the junior partner in Greece’s coalition government and head of Independent Greeks, on Sunday said after voting in the southern Athenian suburb of Glyfada that “the Greek people are not afraid. Let’s not forget that this is the country where democracy was born.”

The nationalist leader slammed “different so-called analyses threatening Greeks with an exit from the euro, with closed ATMs… with threats of supposed deposit haircuts, which are nowhere on the horizon, and with various terror scenarios.”

Kammenos, who also serves as defense minister, added that “democracy gives citizens the right to decide, not those who are looking to subjugate peoples and nations.”
