A series of quakes struck several islands in the Aegean on Friday though there were no reports of major damage or injuries.

The strongest tremor, measuring 5 on the Richter scale, occurred in the undersea area between the islands of Kos and Nisyros in the southern Aegean just before 1 p.m.

An hour earlier, a much milder quake, of 3.5 Richter, occurred near Nea Makri, northeast of Athens.

Early in the morning, Samothrace, in the northeastern Aegean, was hit by a series of three undersea quakes.

The first two, measuring 4.3 and 4.6 on the Richter scale, occurred southeast of the island, at 4.26 a.m. and 5.40 a.m.

The third tremor, which occurred at 9.54 a.m., was weaker, measuring 4.2 Richter.
