Retired policeman arrested for threatening, robbing Bangladeshi nationals

A 55-year-old retired policeman underwent questioning by an Athens prosecutor on Monday after he and three accomplices were accused of forcing a group of Bangladeshi nationals to hand over cash and valuables while posing as police officers on two occasions in less than a week.

The first robbery took place in the Bangladeshi men’s apartment in the downtown neighborhood of Aghios Panteleimonas on July 30.

The gang allegedly told their victims they were police officers and searched the home, making off with 872 euros in cash and a laptop.

They allegedly returned two days later in a bid to get more money from the Bangladeshi men, who suspected a ruse and called the police.

The 55-year-old is already under investigation for related crimes.
