Greek farmers gear up for protests

Despite reassurances by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras that the government will seek a “fair redistribution” of the tax burden on farmers, a union representing producers in northern Greece heralded action over the coming weeks to protest changes to their tax status.

Livestock farmers are to stage a protest outside a regional authority building in the northern city of Drama on August 11 while  farmers are to stage a protest rally outside the Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace in Thessaloniki on August 25.
