Downpour causes problems in Thessaloniki

Heavy rain on Tuesday morning flooded streets and caused temporary glitches in the power supply in and around the northern port city of Thessaloniki.

Traffic came to standstill in the city center as visibility was restricted by the downpour, while police closed a section of the ring road for several hours due to flooding.

More rain is expected in many parts of Greece, particularly in the north and central parts, on Tuesday and Wednesday as a wet front sweeps through the country, also bringing some respite from a recent heat wave.
