Father, sons held over cannabis farm on Crete

Police on Crete on Tuesday detained a 61-year-old man and his two sons, who are believed to have been running an extensive cannabis cultivation business in the prefecture of Rethymno.

After discovering eight separate cultivations in an agricultural area, officers traced the older man, who tried to flee in a pickup truck but was cornered and arrested.

A search of a nearby farm building turned up a Kalashnikov assault rifle, a submachine gun and a large amount of ammunition.

Two men believed to be the key suspect’s sons were arrested later in the day.

A search of a property belonging to one of the sons turned up a small amount of cannabis.
