Two Noor 1 crew blame captain, mediator at drug trial

Two crew members of the Noor 1 cargo ship, which smuggled 2 tons of heroin to Greece last year, on Thursday pointed to the captain of the vessel and a Greek man alleged to have arranged for the drugs to be moved to two Athens properties during their testimony in court.

The ship’s mate and engineer, both Indian nationals, suggested that the captain of the Noor 1, also an Indian, had played a key role in the smuggling.

They also both pointed to a Greek defendant who is believed to have overseen the transfer of the heroin to a warehouse in Koropi and a villa in the northern Athens suburb of Filothei.

The engineer claimed to have been approached by the Greek while awaiting trial in prison and to have been threatened to change his testimony.

A total of 33 suspects have been implicated in the Noor 1 drug-smuggling case, one of the biggest in Greek history.
