Taxwoman to face charges of embezzlement
A tax officer in Athens will be taken to court for stealing more than 300,000 from state coffers.
Corruption prosecutors lodged charges of false statement and embezzling against the female suspect, a treasurer at the Holargos tax office north of Athens, following a probe into the period between December 2013 and November 2015.
During a check, Financial Ministry inspectors found a 341,000-euro deficit. The employee was found to have issued bogus evidence for up to 236,000 euros in administrative fees.
The employee, who claims to have faced serious financial problems, has been suspended from duty.
