Constantopoulou aide denies police guard breakdown

An aide of former parliamentary speaker Zoe Constantopoulou has denied reports that claim a policeman assigned to the ex-SYRIZA MP recently had a nervous breakdown because of the pressure she put on him.

In a statement, Costas Zikoyiannis said the allegations that the police officer was driven to breaking point by constant phone calls from Constantopoulou were “monstrous lies.”

It was alleged that the calls mostly related to the ex-speaker’s attempt to hold on to an office in Parliament.

Zikoyiannis said that the room in question has been locked since December 14 by parliamentary staff and has not been used by Constantopoulou, who drew criticism from SYRIZA lawmakers as well as opposition MPs during her time in office.
