Probe launched into attack on Skai TV building

Police have launched an investigation into an attack by a group of hooded motorcyclists early Tuesday morning on a building housing the facilities of Skai TV in Neo Faliro, southern Athens.
With a limited police presence in the area, the assailants threw rocks, flares and wooden planks at the building’s glass facade and, according to a report by the private security firm on duty there, also tried to force their way into the premises.
The attack, which began at roughly 1 a.m. and lasted for some 20 minutes until police reinforcements arrived on the scene, left one guard lightly injured after he tried to put out a flare with his foot.
The assailants, which reports said were supporters of Olympiakos basketball club returning from a victorious title-clinching match against archrivals Panathinaikos in northern Athens, also damaged a police car and knocked over parked motorcycles in the surrounding area.
The Skai TV building is close to the Karaiskaki Stadium – home to Olympiakos football club – and the Peace and Friendship Stadium, where the basketball club plays its home games.
