Convict escapes from Athens hospital

A 30-year-old convict on Wednesday escaped from Athens’s Sotiria Hospital, to which he had been transferred from the high-security Korydallos Prison for medical tests earlier in the day.

The 30-year-old, who is a Georgian national, had been serving time for theft.

Police in the capital were still looking for the convict late last night.

The precise circumstances of his escape remained unclear.
