Athens bus, trolley bus routes diverted due to vandalism

The Athens Urban Transport Organization has diverted several city bus and trolley bus routes away from the area in front of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) due to the repeated vandalism of vehicles.

The affected routes include trolley bus lines 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 11 and 15 and bus routes 022, 054, 224, 500, 622, 608, 035, A8, B12, G12 and A7.

The diversions of the routes, which skirt Patission Street in front of the NTUA, are to remain in force until policing of the area has been intensified.

Attacks on buses and trolley buses, chiefly by suspected members of anti-establishment groups, have been rife. In some instances, vandals forced passengers and the driver off the vehicles before torching them.
