Municipal employee fired over forged degree

A municipal employee on the southeastern Aegean island of Leros was sacked Wednesday after it was revealed he was hired 15 years ago using a forged degree.

He was dismissed after Leros authorities made inquiries with the academy that supposedly issued his car mechanic diploma only to find out it hadn’t.

The mayor of Leros, Michalis Kolias, took a personal interest in the matter and declared his hiring null and void.
