Energy minister’s son sentenced over protest at Golden Dawn branch

An Athens misdemeanors court on Friday convicted the son of Energy Minister Panos Skourletis and another three defendants to a 14-month suspended prison sentence over a protest outside a branch of ultranationalist party Golden Dawn last week.

The defendants were charged with disrupting the peace and refusing to give police their fingerprints after scuffles broke out between some 50 protesters and riot police outside the offices of Golden Dawn in the northern Athenian suburb of Maroussi.

They said they were protesting the distribution by the far-right party of flyers containing racist and anti-immigrant slogans.
