Prosecutor of Noor 1 case calls for no leniency in sentencing

A prosecutor on Wednesday called on a Piraeus court preparing to issue sentences for 15 out of the 30 people implicated in the Noor 1 heroin smuggling affair to reject the defendants’ appeals for their previous clean records to be taken into account in sentencing.

According to sources, the prosecutor indicated that only two of the 15 people found guilty in connection with the smuggling of more than 2 tons of heroin into Greece aboard the Noor 1 cargo ship in 2014 should be shown some leniency in sentencing.

The terms are expected to be announced on Thursday.
